The Tragedy of Nurse Schooling
Everyone who completes their nursing education has had some experience with mathematical concepts. For most of us, the experience wasn’t a pleasurable one. We remember the drams, grams, scruples, and liter conversions. But with nursing education now adjoining the main line of the collegiate academic world, one more mathematical dreadnought has surfaced.
I Went CountryI have learned a lot from living in the country. I bought two acres in a very small town. I have always loved the country but was raised in the city. When I bought the property, I had to settle in by myself. I had one neighbor, I met him on a day that was sunny and clear. I was feeling very “springy” and anxious to get to work on my new gigantic yard. I had an old push mower that was so loud you could feel your dental work vibrate when it was at full speed. I was mowing my back yard, singing the them song from “Green Acres” at the top of my lungs. I figured between my location and the old mower, no one would hear me.
Holiday From HellIt was a Thanksgiving Day many years ago, I was still married to my kid’s Dad. We had the tradition of going over to his family for Thanksgiving dinner. This is the story about what was thankfully, my last Thanksgiving with my husband and his family.
Aging ParentsIt’s common knowledge that everyone ages. And unfortunately part of aging is watching your parents get older also. I’ve had a front row seat to my mother’s aging process. Sometimes it’s even a audience participation event. I have to take her to her doctor visits now because driving out of our small town has started to make her nervous.
I Don’t Like BugsI’ll admit it. I don’t like bugs. I’m not one of those people that will stop you from swatting one and give you this long speech about how everything serves a purpose and they’re needed. I personally don’t think they are. I can’t really name one time in my life when a bug has come to my rescue or saved my life. I’ve never got a jump for a dead battery by a fly, an ant has never held the door open for me at a restaurant. A spider has never carried my bags to my car at the store. So when it comes time to roll up the newspaper and start swinging, I’m right there.
Awareness MonthsI was reading an article from a magazine in the Dr.’s office waiting room that mentioned “Genital Awareness” month, once I stopped giggling, I started thinking about when I was growing up, I never heard of awareness days. So being the ever curious person that I am, I came home and started to do some research. I was amazed at what I found, there is an awareness day for almost every single day of the year.

Swish, Thump – Trickle, Thump – SLAM!We have had an ongoing problem with the plumbing in our master bath ever since we did some remodeling a little over five years ago. They, being an endless stream of plumbers keep telling us that the ballcock is the culprit behind the incessant running of water which is always followed by a loud slamming noise as it finally seals itself. This happens when we flush and even when we haven’t flushed the toilet. It’s become one of those “house noises” that you tune out as you drift off to sleep.
